Premiere: Reelow – Daft Prunk [Moxy Muzik]

Weaving and bobbing between some seriously big records already this year, Darius Syrossian maintains the heat from his massive DFTD and Pets dispatches with a return to his very own Moxy Muzik stable with the very special new volume of his Moxy Editions series.

Limited and coveted, Moxy Editions are a unique and specific series of vinyl releases, coated in hand drawn art by artist Charlotte Archer. Now on its second volume, the launch release sold out in a flash with Phonica Records smashing out 200 copies alone.

This one is just as special if not more as Darius invites Reelow, Jordan Masters and Mahony into the fray. Two sides, two vibes, two artists, two remixes: Darius kicks things off with ‘Mercy Me’, a diesel powered 90s house bubbler that hits with all the charm, weight and muscle of a Vasquez or Tenaglia jam. Chunky, percussive, cheeky and loaded with generous helpings of bass, it’s backed by a crucial remix from Jordan Masters who strips things back and adds a dark UK sheen to the groove.

Deeper into the edition we strike more gold as Reelow serves up ‘Daft Prunk’ a widescreen wonk-out that tips its hat to the Classic Music Company sound. Fat, freeform and just the right amount of acid. It’s backed by more trippiness as Mahoney gets crafty with the vocal snippets and obscene with the subs. Trust us, there’s nothing daft about this joint.
